Sporting Billy take new lease

The shortage of good profile industrial and warehouse units in the Chippenham area has meant that some companies have had to be very patient in their quest to relocate.  For one such company however the search is now over after completing a deal via commercial property agency Huw Thomas Commercial. Sporting Billy, a specialist supplier of sporting and corporate clothing, has taken a new lease of Unit 10 on the Bath Road Industrial Estate in Chippenham. The unit benefits from a high profile to the main A4 and is situated close to businesses including Bathwick Tyres, Jewson, B & Q and Currys/PC World. Huw Thomas comments “I’ve been speaking to Sporting Billy for a long time about various units and as soon as I was instructed on this one I immediately thought of them. I’m very pleased that they have … Continued

Beauty is in the eye of the….landlord?

As a fairly traditional male, I’ve been having my hair cut by the same barber for many years now. He’s a traditional old fashioned gent’s hairdresser that does what’s required to my thinning locks! Just up the road however is Turkish barber who has built a strong client base with his sharp cuts of hair and beards while also burning out your ear hair with a flaming wick! The number of enquiries I’ve received in the last couple of years, and continue to receive, for premises to be used as barber shops is quite remarkable! Just how they all make a living, when there are so many around, I don’t know? For us males, our regular visit to the barber is about as much “beauty” treatment as we desire. For the ladies however, not only do they like their regular … Continued

The letting was agreed by Huw Thomas of Huw Thomas Commercial, acting on behalf of private owners of the property. No summer holiday for the industrial market!

The month of August is traditionally a quiet month in the property market when applicants, agents and solicitors go on holiday, meaning that usually very few deals are agreed and completed during the month. August this year however was been very different, with a number of deals completed during the month by Huw Thomas Commercial. Early in the month, a 5, 500 sqft industrial unit at Corsham Commercial Centre in Corsham, was let to local company AJM Engineering Ltd, to facilitate their expansion. Attention then moved to the Bumpers Farm Industrial Estate in Chippenham, where a run of 3 lettings in 2 weeks saw three different businesses acquire additional space. The successful retail sector that doesn’t get mentioned!

When talking of the retail market, the media headlines have been for high profile failures and High Street names in trading difficulties such as House of Fraser, Debenhams, Poundworld, HMV, Toys’R’Us to name just a few. What the media have not picked up, or perhaps they just prefer bad news stories, is the resurgence of the secondary retail market; those locations just off the main High Street or Shopping Precinct, where rents are more affordable and service charges are low or non-existent. The market towns of Wiltshire can virtually all boast good demand in this sector, with hair and beauty; food and drink and quasi-medical uses to the fore. Leading the way has been the number of barber shops opening! It still amazes me the number we now have in some towns in the area. Are they all going to … Continued

The shortage of supply of industrial and warehouse units in Wiltshire has been well documented for some time now. In the City of Bath the problem is even worse. The demand on land for high value uses such as student housing, hotel and residential apartments has led to a number of former industrial and warehouse sites being redeveloped for these uses. The failure to find alternative premises in the City has resulted in Beck & Pollitzer Engineering Limited relocating from Bath to Chippenham.  The company that specialises in machinery installations, has acquired a 3,500 sq.ft unit on Chippenham Trade Centre, part of the Bumpers Farm Estate. The unit that had recently been refurbished by the owner was let by Chippenham commercial property consultants Huw Thomas Commercial. Huw Thomas comments “Beck & Pollitzer could not find suitable property in Bath so … Continued
